For the past decade, web search has stayed more or less the same from the user's point of
view. Ten years ago you got a list of links, today you get a list of links. It's
time for web search to enter the 21st century, and that's exactly what we've done with Slikk's never-seen-before features!
Before we begin, an important note: we created Slikk with the end-user in
mind. If there's any feature you'd like to see in Slikk, or if you have any
question or comment, please do register and let us know in the forums. We plan
on implementing each and every feature suggestion made to us, if technically and
practically possible.
1. Search Browsing
Up until today, if you weren't sure which of the
search results was the one you need, you had two options: opening up a bunch of
browser tabs, or clicking search results and then the browser "back"
button until you found what you needed. SearchBrowsing allows you to open search
results and browse their website in an embedded window right on the
search page, drastically reducing the time needed to
find what you're looking for.
Just click
the button next to any search result and that website opens up. This is not
a thumbnail or preview, it's the fully browsable website, allowing you to search
and browse at the same time! Not the site you need? Just click the next one to load
it on the page. You can also quickly click several of the buttons and then tab
through the resulting websites.
You can also click one of the icons on the right side of the
LionWindow
to maximize it in full or half, or
resize it manually by dragging any of it's sides.
Automatic Searchbrowse:
If you check the SearchBrowse checkbox (either on the homepage or in "options"), the first three search results will automatically open with
SearchBrowse. Your setting will be remembered for future searches.
SlikkUrls:
Here's the coolest part about Searchbrowsing yet! After opening search results, you can simply copy the url from your browser and send it
to someone. When they open the link, Slikk will automatically open up the same search results!
LionView: You can also
browse your open websites simultaneously by
clicking "LionV" on the top right of the LionWindow. This will arrange and
present all your chosen websites on the screen at the same time. Of course you can maximise each one.
Browse multiple search result websites simultaneously. 2. MultiView
In the past, searching various types of
results entailed opening multiple web pages. To search for web results, you'd
have to go to the search engine web search page, for images, the Image search
page, etc.
Slikk, on the other hand, let's you search and view various types of results
simultaneously. The MultiView feature allows you to display one type of search
result on the left side of the screen and another on the right side. On either
side, you can choose between web, image, news, video, blog or Twitter results.
For example, you can have web results on the left side and images on the right
side. Or news on the left and Twitter on the right. The choice is always yours!
Slikk also saves your settings, so once you've opened MultiView, any
subsequent visits to Slikk will give you both types of results. If you decide
you don't want MultiView, just click the "X".
You can also choose 'web' in
MultiView, which will give you double the amount of web results on the page!
You'll get 24 results on the screen as opposed to the default 10 you get on other
search engines.
ComboView: In the near future we'll be adding a feature which
will allow you to view even more than two types of search results at the same
time (stay tuned!)
3. Other User Features
1. Search Results: Slikk lets you choose whether the search results you get come from Google (default), Yahoo/Bing, or
Slikks own results (coming soon). The default is google, but if you prefer Yahoo or Bing just click "options" and choose the
results you want.
2. ShareIt: Slikk lets you share any search result (web, images, videos, etc) with your social network or by email.
Just click the share icon next to the search result. When sharing by email, you can even send multiple search results from all types
of results in the same email!
3. MyLinks: You know those links on the top left of the screen
(Web, images, etc)? Now you can add your own links to the menu! Just click
MyLinks and choose one of the preset links, or create your own!
